Este año Olatu Talka está colaborando para participar, el 20 de mayo a las 13:00
, en la mayor coreografía del mundo, creada por el aclamado coreógrafo británico
Akram Khan.
La formación de monitores para participar en el Big Dance ha tenido lugar hoy 4 de marzo, de 09:30 a 16:00, en la sala de danza del Teatro Victoria Eugenia. En la misma han participado 11 monitores de Donostia, de varias escuelas, grupos de baile y comparsas. Los formadores, por su parte, han sido tres miembros de la compañia de Khan: Jennifer Irons, José Agudo y Richard Parr.
Tras el ensayo de hoy los y las monitoras difundirán lo aprendido entre sus alumnos y alumnas, para que el 20 de mayo se unan a la iniciativa el mayor número de bailarines y bailarinas locales posible. El sitio de la ciudad donde se llevará a cabo la coreografía está por determinar, pero deberá ser un sitio amplio, porque se espera la participación de un gran número de personas.
Big Dance
Big Dance es un festival bienal organizado por la Foundation for Community Dance
y la Alcaldía de Londres. Desde 2006 esta actividad ha reunido a centenares de miles de personas alrededor del mundo, en torno a un proyecto coreográfico de destacados creadores británicos.
Este año Khan ha creado la pieza de Big Dance sobre una música original de
Nitin Sawhney. Una vez más, será una iniciativa inclusiva, ya que es una coreografía pensada para que personas de todas las edades y condiciones físicas puedan realizarla.
Esta será la quinta y última edición. Se llevará a cabo en más de 50 países, con
más de 100.000 participantes, a las 13:00 hora local de cada país, empezando
desde Australia.
Akram Khan visitará Donostia en abril
Además, cabe destacar que el coreógrafo británico Akram Khan estará pronto en Donostia. Ofrecerá el espectáculo Torobaka junto a Israel Galván el 1 y 2 de abril, en el Teatro Victoria Eugenia.

-2006: Big Dance Week took place from 15-23 July 2006 led by the Mayor of London and delivered through a partnership with Arts Council England and the BBC.
The Big Dance 2006 commission for Trafalgar Square was by choreographer, Jeanefer Jean-Charles.
BBC One commissioned 'Dancing in the Street' which was the finale of Big Dance 2006.
The Biggest Dance Class took place across 37 cities across England with choreography by Luca Silvestrini.
-2008: Big Dance 2008 was a capital-wide festival led by the Mayor of London in partnership with BBC London and Visit London which took place from 5-13 July 2008.
The Big Dance 2008 commission for Trafalgar Square was by choreographer, Aletta Collins.
The Big Chair Dance was a feature of 2008 presented by Capital Age Festival at the Southbank Centre and involved more than 200 older Londoners in seven localities, around the capital, working with choreographers: Maresa von Stockert, Jonzi D and Gauri Sharma Tripathi.
-2010: In 2009, Big Dance was chosen as London's Legacy Trust UK programme and this funding enable the creation of the 5 Big Dance Hubs to deliver sub-regional programmes for the capital.
The Big Dance London Hubs were: East London Dance, English National Ballet, Greenwich Dance, Sadler's Wells and Siobhan Davies Dance.
Big Dance Week took place from 3-11 July 2010 and was led by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council England and the Big Dance Hubs.
Big Dance 2010 was launched on 20 January 2010 at Spitalfield's Market.
The Big Dance Bus began its tour on 20 May 2010 at Sadler's Wells to launch the countdown to Big Dance Week.
The Big Dance 2010 commission for Trafalgar Square was by choreographer Luca Silvestrini. 'The Big World Dance' was a partnership with Southbank Centre. The dance began in Festival Square.

On 18 May, the countdown to the festival was launched with The Big Dance Schools Pledge, which was delivered through a partnership with the British Council and the Connecting Classrooms programme. This was a Guinness World record attempt for the Largest Simultaneous Dance Routine. Big Dance 2012 was launched at St Pancras International Station by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of Londonand Arlene Phillips on 5 July. The launch was choreographed by Kate Prince with performances involving all 21 Hubs on stages across the station.

The Big Street Dance Day took place across the UK on 14 July with dance events of scale in public spaces across UK cities.
In London, Big Dance Trafalgar Square 2012 was a commission by choreographer, Wayne McGregor and featured 1,000 Londoners.
Big Dance Beijing and Big Dance Rio films were also screened in Trafalgar Square representing past, present and future Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Channel 4 commissioned a programme 'Big Dance 2012'.
